Music in the Clouds

Found this neat article while searching for another report I heard on All Things Considered yesterday.  I love music and love listening to different types.  Some of my personal favorite websites are Live365 and Shoutcast.  


To be able to store music online would be neat.  It does raise some good points for when it comes to paying royalties as well as your privacy rights to your user activity.  Amazon, Google, and Apple seem to be the leaders trying to figure out how to make a profit from this.

Beware of Googlezon?

Watching this video, gets one concerned about how history may give us notice about the future.  With the web ever expanding and integrating more technologies, we see media being challenged.  The way it was done might not be the way it continues.  The premise of the video is that a few internet companies consolidate, developing (or buying) new technology to challenge the establishment.

According to the video, Amazon and Google led the charge in the 90's with innovative code and even bigger dreams.  In a fantasy world, they unite and knock off Microsoft and then see more people choosing their services as they integrate and consolidate more.  They pretend that newspapers can't handle the competition and fold.  There can be only one.

Although the video is very accurate up to a point, when it fantasizes about the future, they leave out some important factors.  For example, would Googlezon be sued by the U.S. government as a trust?  Would an innovator and entrepreneur make a product to take on Googlezon?  Sure Googlezon might buy them out,but someone might really want to "stick-it"  to them.  Would Googlezon start charging for services?  What about consumer taste?

As we interconnect, will the internet become a utopia or dystopia?
